REC Pene 9 DEC 08

FOREIGN OFFICE

December 8, 1908.

Sir:-

I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to request

that if the Secretary of State for the Colonies sees

no objection a report may be obtained from the prison

authorities at Hong Kong on the state of health of T.J.

Stevenson, who was recently condemned by His Majesty's

Supreme Court at Shanghai to Twelve months imprisonment

with hard labour for manslaughter, and who is

now serving his term of imprisonment at Hongkong. Ac-

cording to information received from His Majesty's

Consul General at Shanghai Stevenson, who has for some

time suffered from angina pectoris, has been excused

hard labour, but representations have been made that he

is in a bad state of health and Sir E. Grey would

therefore be glad to have reliable information on the

subject.

I am, Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble Servant,

6. Langley

Colonial Office.
